《时代报》4日获悉，据经合组织（OECD）最新公布的一份研究报告显示，仅1/5澳洲男性请了育婴假。但在一些北欧国家以及南欧的葡萄牙，当地有40%或更多男性请了育婴假。La Trobe University当代生育学博士Amanda Cooklin对此表示，大多数澳洲企业对待性别与家庭问题的态度依然非常传统。她说，“在澳洲，父亲依然被当作家庭支柱，承担着养家糊口的责任。尽管很多男性很想改变这一观念，但澳洲职场的态度并未与时俱进，因而无法满足这一男性群体的心愿。”

据了解，在澳洲，男性雇员的平均周薪较女性雇员高约18%。
