[其他] 'Poo here' movement against paid parking spreads across Brisbane suburbs

RESIDENTS are advised not to take "poo here" signs too literally as Brisbane City Council battles to replace dozens of parking signs protesting charge hikes introduced earlier this year.

Blue "Pay Here" signs in West End and around the city have been replaced with signs asking motorists to "Poo Here" instead and sparking a flurry of activity on social media.

Many users are pictured pretending to "poo" near the meters.

Although the signs are believed to have originated in Fortitude Valley and West End late last year, Brisbane City Council has been unable to stop the spread and continues to remove stickers from signs on a regular basis.

A Brisbane City Council spokesperson said many signs had been either replaced or corrected depending on their condition.

"Council has provided additional Pay Here signage to provide customers with sufficient information on payment devices."

"Customers are encouraged to contact Council's Contact Centre to report any defaced signs."

Local councillor Helen Abrahams said she was not surprised by the colourful additions as many residents are still annoyed at parking cost hikes.

"Residents in the inner city suburbs know they are copping it," she said.

"I'm really not surprised something like this has popped up, it's a bit funny."

She said while she supported everyone's right to freedom of speech she did not encourage anyone to take the sign literally.

"I support everyone having a say so long as it doesn't cause harm to anyone.

"Of course it would be great if people rang Council office to complain as well as putting stickers on the sign."
