Subject: I got a job! Hey Scarlet! Hope you had a wonderful Easter break. Just keeping you updated that I got offered as an Accountant role in the commercial sector. I start commencement next week. I just want to say thanks for the internship program and your support to help not only to me but to all interns. I also like to thank Jeff for providing a reference check as well. It really helped me out. The internship experience was great for me to further develop my knowledge and skills with accounting in the real world and understanding the month-end process. Tips to the job hunters out there, Remember what you're applying for and meet their key requirements that are listed on the job ad. Do some research about their company and why do you think you're best suited for the role. The ads will list the type of person that suits the role for example, "high achievers, thirst for knowledge and passion to succeed. Someone who is self motivated and an eye for detail." Knowing your advertisement is crucial to remember when going into the interview. When going into the interview they will likely ask questions based on ad. The questions interviewers asked me, 1. What do you know about our company? 2. Tell me about yourself. 3. What was your experience like and your responsibilities at Platinum Accounting? 4. Relating to the month-end, how did you deal with completing deadlines? 5. Did you experience any conflicts, if so how did you deal with it? 6. Are you able to work and adapt to changes in a working environment? 7. What are your salary expectations? 8. DO you have any questions for us? Remember to be well prepared. Don't get discouraged if you get denied. Usually when you get a call for an interview, you know you're shortlisted from 50 applicants to usually 3. So keep your head high and stay positive and an offer will come around. Again, thanks for everything Scarlet and for staying in touch with me. I want to thank everyone who I've met and have supported and nurtured me at Platinum Accounting. It was worth the time and for the experience which will continue to develop further down my career path. Warm regards, Richard

Subject: RE: reference check
Hey scarlet
Sorry for haven't got back to you in a while. I've been really busy applying for a lot of jobs. unfortunately i wasn't successful in getting the position for VISY. there reason was that they require someone with a little more experience than me cause I never had professional experience.
however i've continued to apply for a lot of graduate/assistant/junior accountant roles. This week i had two interviews:
1. Graduate Accountant
Company - MTQ http://www.mtqes.com.au/
2. Accountant Position
Company – Radio Rentals.
I just received an email from radio rental after my interview requesting referee. it would really help me if you can do a referee check for me. I would really appreciate it.
I've received great feedback from previous interviews. My problem was that I didn't fully meet all the requirements that was mentioned in the advertisement. This includes the roles and criteria for an ideal candidate. For example if the advertisement says they want some with thirst for knowledge and great communication. I've always relate do what i've done at platinum accounting to the criteria of the advertisement.
Applying for commercial industry accounting related roles,
They mostly asked these following questions:
1. What do you know about our company?
2. Tell me about yourself (studies, work and hobbies) - Must keep it real brief
3. What were your responsibilities at Platinum Accounting? - Did you enjoy your internship there?
4. Whats your understanding in the month-end process?
5. In relation to the month-end process how did you deal with completing dead-lines?
6. Did you have any sort of conflicts whilst working or studying?
7. What experiences have you had working in a team-driven environment?
8. Are you able to work and adapt to changes in a working environment?
9. What are your salary expectations?
10. Do you have any questions for us?
I've also been interviewed at professional accounting practices like Accru, Harris and Orchard. I was unsuccessful after a 2nd interview.
But they mostly ask questions relating to tax. For example,
1. What does GST stand for?
2. How would you lodge BAS?
3. How often would you lodge a individual tax return?
4. If you have an invoice, what examples can you provide that do not involve GST?
They asked several accounting knowledge questions including:
1. How would you record rent expense on a general ledger?
2. What is the current company tax rate?
3. What is the current GST rate?
I hope my experience in interviews has someway helped your current interns in applying for jobs and the type of questions they expect to get when applying for accounting positions between professional accounting practices and commercial industries.
Have a lovely day Scarlet!
Get back to me soon!
Warm regards,
Richard
