Invitation to Participate as a (1) ELBA Delegate and a
(2) SAGE World Cup Judge
This is a special invitation to you as a potential “Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship” (SAGE) World Cup Judge to participate as a delegate in the Entrepreneurial Leadership for Business Advantage (ELBA). Combined, ELBA and SAGE is a 12-day intensive program based on entrepreneurial management and entrepreneurship education. This 12-day program will take place August 2005 in California. ELBA/SAGE is designed for potential leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs who are interested in: (a) leadership and management topics for entrepreneurs and (2) the development of young entrepreneurship leaders in your country.
You are invited to apply if you are an undergraduate student or graduate student who is interested in entrepreneurship and/or entrepreneurship education. There are no restrictions (e.g., nationality, major). ELBA and SAGE are guaranteed to give participants not only a significant competitive edge and business advantage, but also a new perspective on entrepreneurship in the 21st century.
ELBA – The Entrepreneurship Component
The entrepreneurship component— ELBA—takes place 4-10 August 2005 in Chico, California and is lead by business leaders, successful entrepreneurs, policymakers and academic experts. Delegates will also have a chance to have a fun outing to one or two cultural events in or around Chico. Moreover, we will also visit three of Northern California’s most successful business enterprises and benefit from the interview by the CEOs and enterprise founders. All delegates will receive an official “Certificate of Completion” on 11 August 2005.
This is truly an international entrepreneurship conference; participants from several countries will be represented, including China, South Africa, France, Switzerland, Poland, the United Kingdom, Chile, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
There are four main objectives of the ELBA Conference:
? to introduce all participants to leading entrepreneurs and business leaders in California;
? to network and exchange ideas for possible import/export opportunities
? to offer technical sessions related to E-business, information systems and technology issues (e.g., how entrepreneurs can succeed with open source software)
? to introduce delegates to venture capitalists in California.
Invited keynote speakers to the ELBA conference include U.S. Congressman Wally Herger (Second District-California), Mr. Ken Grossman (founder of Sierra Nevada Brewery) and Mr. David Crane (Special Advisor to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger).
SAGE – The Entrepreneurship Education/Networking Component
Immediately after the ELBA conference, all participants are invited to travel to San Francisco, California to participate in the entrepreneurship education component—Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE). The Third Annual SAGE World Cup takes place on 11-14 August 2005. SAGE’s mission is “To provide an international network that links secondary school student organizations to mentors from local universities and businesses. Its purpose is to advance global entrepreneurship among high school and university students in an ethical and socially-responsible manner.” SAGE is an outstanding avenue for high school and college students to complete community service-learning projects related to business and economics. In completing these projects, students improve their knowledge of business, financial management, economics and free enterprise, while also improving their leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
All ELBA delegates are invited to San Francisco to the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport to participate in SAGE as a “SAGE Judge.” There will be a competition among the SAGE national champions from the UK, USA, Poland, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, China, Mexico, Chile, Ukraine, Russia and other countries. The role of a SAGE judge is to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of each team’s projects as presented via a written and oral presentation. As a SAGE judge, you will have the opportunity to meet, interact and network with other SAGE judges, many of whom (1) are leaders from Silicon Valley companies, (2) executives from multinational corporations, and (3) venture capitalists.
Registration Fees/Guidelines
The fee for the 12 days program is 500pounds deposit fee (paid in advance) and further 900dollars (paid at the conference). The early applicant before Feb 10st 2005 can get discount for further travel in Disney Park. Registration fees will cover all costs including: hotel, meals, ground transportation and program materials fees. [Note: Each participant is responsible for making their own airline arrangements from their country to San Francisco/Sacramento.] The early deadline for application is Feb 10th 2005.
Registration fees have been substantially discounted already, as many multinational companies have supported our two programs to share the cost with our selected delegates. Therefore, the number of our delegates is quite limited and the delegates will be selected through a competitive application process.
Application Process
To apply, please submit a CV to your official ELBA/SAGE global project coordinator as soon as possible, along with your answer to the following question:
How do you see your professional life developing over the next three decades, and how would the ELBA/SAGE programs help you to attain this goal? (limit: 300 words)
You can also apply directly on the website: http://www.elba-conference.org/register_wang.php
The ELBA/SAGE global project coordinator will recommend the potential qualified delegates to our global committee, which is comprised of business and academic leaders throughout the world.
Visa Letters
I will be most happy to author a letter for each participant to assist them with obtaining travel visas to the United States. Also, under Congressman Herger's signature, the Congressman has agreed to submit one overall letter to the U.S. Embassy for each country represented by the ELBA/SAGE delegation, recommending that all named delegates be allowed to travel to the U.S. to participate in ELBA/SAGE.
