In our department, students are not usually admitted in to
work with (and be funded by) any particular faculty member. Instead
they are admitted directly into the department, with first year
funding provided by the department. It is only for their second year
that they need to find a supervisor to fund them as a research
assistant.
Consequentially students do not usually apply for
a research assistantship with any particular professor. Instead. they
apply directly for admission to the department where they compete with
all other applications.
Unfortunately I can not give a clear answer to your query as
to your chances. Your CV is strong enough that we would definitely
consider admitting you. But, we expect to admit in only another 6
PhD students next year (we have already provisionally admitted 12
to the program) and the competition for places is going to
be quite strong. I expect only 20% of the strong candidates to be
accepted. |
