Mazda MX-5 Superlight概念车的外观具有相当浓厚的赛车风格，它取消了前档风玻璃，敞篷车顶和二侧后视镜，并在MX-5 Superlight概念车的正中央位置加装了一个广角后视镜，在座椅后方加装了精简的防滚架以保护乘客，还换上了降低30mm的Bilstein悬吊，10幅式17寸铝合金轮圏，205/45 R17跑胎，前后四活塞煞车卡钳，前300mm后280mm通风煞车碟盘。

在车内，Mazda使用了大量碳纤维、铝和皮革材质，并为MX-5 Superlight概念车换上三幅式棕色真皮方向盘，二张包覆性极佳的棕色赛车桶椅，以及由皮革和金属材质组合而成的排文件杆和手煞车拉杆。而为了减轻重量Mazda也取消了空调系统和隔音材料，并将车重控制在995公斤。

动力，MX-5 Superlight概念车保留了原MX-5上的1.8升4缸126hp引擎和5速手排变速箱。Mazda在这方面没有什么令人惊喜的动作，但新的进气口和Mazdaspeed双排气管对车辆的性能多少还是会有些帮助。最后Mazda MX-5 Superlight概念车的0到100km/h加速成绩为8.9秒，每公升汽油可跑15.87公里，二氧化碳的排放量为150g/km。Mazda MX-5 Superlight概念车将会在本届法兰克福车展上亮相，且目前将不会提供市售版本。不过我们永远不知道未来会发生什么事。
