Toxic capsules reignite concerns over drug safety - Rage and condemnation surged in China once more after media reports revealed that some capsule medication contain excessive amount of chromium, which is hazardous to human health.
“毒胶囊”事件折射药品安全问题——自从媒体曝光一些药用胶囊“铬超标”，对人体有害之后，人们的谴责声浪就在不断高涨。
上面报道中的toxic capsule就是“毒胶囊”。据报道，个别企业用生石灰将waste leather（皮革废料）进行漂白熬制成industrial gelatin（工业明胶），随后以此为原料制造drug capsule（药用胶囊），并销售给一些知名药品企业。在leather tanning（皮革鞣制）过程中会产生大量铬，易导致癌症。目前一些药企已开始recall（召回）相关药品。
为了避免吃到chromium-contaminated capsules（铬污染胶囊），不少人开始研究吃胶囊药的新方法。有人直接吞食胶囊内的medicinal powder（药粉），不过此举有可能会导致食道被灼伤。还有人想出了“馒头包药”法，用馒头皮代替胶囊。不过在这之前，你还得确认你买的馒头不是含有artificial coloring（人工色素）的tainted steamed buns（染色馒头）。 |
