Introduction the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) – 1 July 2010ANZSCO is a classification system that provides for the standardised collection, analysis, and dissemination of occupation data.  From 1 July 2010 ANZSCO will replace the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO) currently used by the department.

The temporary suspension of accepting of certain GSM visa applications lifted – 1 July 2010The temporary suspension of accepting of certain GSM visa applications lifted from 1 July 2010.
Applications for the following visa subclasses are now accepted as normal:
  • Subclass 175 – Skilled Independent (Migrant) visa
  • Subclass 176 – Skilled Sponsored (Migrant) visa
  • Subclass 475 – Skilled Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa.Capping and ceasing of specified offshore GSM applications lodged before 1 September 20071 July 2010On 8 February 2010, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, announced that applications for certain offshore skilled migration visas made before 1 September 2007 would be capped and ceased.  The Minister has now set the maximum number of visas that can be granted for the specified visa classes in the 2009-10 financial year.  As the cap has now been reached, applications subject to the capping decision have now ceased.  As part of this process the relevant Visa Application Charge(s) will be returned to the applicant and information about the method of repayment will be available on this website shortly.
    The following visa subclasses have been affected by this arrangement.
  • Skill Matching (Subclass 134)
  • Skilled – Independent (Subclass 136)
  • Skilled – State/Territory-Nominated Independent (Subclass 137)
  • Skilled – Australian Sponsored (Subclass 138)

    Changes to state nominated and family sponsored GSM visas 1 July 2010 From 1 July 2010, applicants for certain GSM applications will be required to demonstrate that they have been nominated by a state or territory government agency or sponsored by an eligible relative in order to make a valid application.  These amendments relate to the following visa subclasses:
  • Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 176)
  • Skilled – Sponsored (Residence) Visa (Subclass 886)
  • Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 475)
  • Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 487).
