Migration agent raided over visa documents                                               

May 8, 2009A RAID on a city office has uncovered a visa racket thathad ensnared at least 30 people, the Immigration Minister, Chris Evans,said.
A Sydneymigration agent  was yesterday accused of falsifying documents tosupport  applications for skilled-migrant  visas. Officers from theImmigration Department and the Australian Federal Policestaged the raidafter learning of doubtful documents attached to applications forskills tests required for visas.
The applicants had wanted work as cooks, mechanics and hairdressers.
Theagent allegedly supplied fake documents to at least 30 people, mostlyfrom China. Investigations into possible forgery and fraud are alsounder way.
"Illegalactivity by migration agents attacksthe heart of Australia's  visaprograms and will not be tolerated,"Senator Evans said. People who gainpermanent visas based on false documents can have their visas cancelled.
Thebody representing migration agents, the Migration InstituteofAustralia, commended the raid. "The MIA does not tolerate this kindof behaviour," the chief executive, Maurene Horder, said.
