In modern megacities, it is common to see that children at 5 years old are required to attend a variety of curriculums such as dancing, drawing and second language learning. Some people contend that it contributes to their individual development. From my perspective, I agree with this view to some extent.
Admittedly, it is indispensable to urge children to work hard in such a competitive society. In fact, when entering primary schools, pupils endeavor to gain better grades and teachers' compliment. If they fail to devote themselves to study, it is likely for them to fall behind peers or even lose the interest in learning. In addition, one's potential can never be achieved without persistent efforts. Most distinguished pianists or dancers started their training at the age of three or four, spending all time in learning and practicing. So do the authoritative learners who had cultivated the reading habit at their early age.
Furthermore, a hardworking or diligent learning attitude benefits children for the whole life. There is an old saying that: “ You must reap what you have sown.” It means that whether success of academic work, career or life can be achievable depends on how hard a person works. Consequently, in order to cope with the adversity and hardship, there is no doubt that children are supposed to be instilled and conform to this approach.
However, we can not deny the negative impacts it brings. The first one is that childhood, which is often thought as the happiest time of one's life, may be filled with mathematic formulas or new vocabularies. Naturally, less time is left for children to appreciate the magic of nature or share happiness and sorrows with friends. What's worse, once lost, it lost forever. How could a young man experience the same feeling as a kid even if they are flying a kite together? Mankind can never walk back to the past.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that children should be forced to work hard from a young age in an attempt to make brilliant achievements while it does not mean that all their leisure activities should be banned. Instead, they are encouraged to alternate work with rest.

The pressure of students in university is increasing rapidly in recent years, since having a bachelor degree is not an edge in the job market any more. Therefore, some people are entertaining the idea that students should be pushed to work hard at young age so as to excel. However, I believe that this would lead to several undesirable consequences.
Students are getting more pressured to achieve their goals mostly set up by their parents or teachers early in life, and getting good grades has become one of them that they are aspiring for. It has been perceived that a good academic record from school can lead to a better academic qualification which could possibly place someone to a decent job. With such belief, people may neglect on the negative effects of the pressure students are encountering. In order to develop students' potentials in academic studies as much as possible, many schools today practice an elite students policy that students are taught separately according to their levels of intelligence. But what makes it a mockery is that instead of making them outstanding, those selected children in advanced classes are deprived of a normal but essential part of growing up, and those who are rejected from studying with the gifted students usually suffer psychological pressure from their parents or themselves not being “good” enough.
Many parents and teachers have a distorted recognition of education today and sometimes students themselves believe that the only purpose of going to school is simply to guarantee a future career and gaining a better chance Of employment. But they have witnessed examples of young people who are struggling to find jobs and those who have found work is being underpaid and exploited. Therefore, pe?ple are believed that students should work harder at young age to stand out in adulthood. But, this pressure-driven fashion of education leads to a negative attitude to learning.
All the stress experienced by a student now should be considered seriously, and before making young minds ready for the competitive world too early, allowing them to study and live in a cooperative way is essential for their growing up.

These days we can see many parents pushing their kids to learn all kinds of things by taking them to various after-school programs. This is because, as these parents would claim, that the pressure the kids will face in future is increasing and therefore they should “get started” as early as possible. But personally, I disagree with these well-intentioned parents.
Admittedly, the kids in early-start mode may excel their peers in school grades, but this mode can also result in negative consequences. Forcing a kid to sit at home and learn things in which he/she does not have any interest at all when he/she is supposed to play with other kids outside might eventually kill the kid's passion for learning. That is exactly why many kids who did really well in primary school end up nowhere when they get to the university level. So, in order not to drain up the kids' oil tank, I would suggest that they be left on the playground as much as possible rather than in their study.
Furthermore, pushing the kids to learn at their early age may give them the harmful impression that life is just like a must-win battle in which they have no alternative but work still harder. For many people, this life philosophy may sound logical enough, but for young kids, this is a little too much because it will spoil their care-free childhood on the one hand, and do no good to develop their right attitude towards life on the other. That is the reason why so many early-start children do not know how to cope with competition and pressure in their future work.
To conclude, pushing young kids to work hard is harmful, rather than beneficial, to their future. To maintain their passion for learning and life, the really wise parents should leave the choices to kids themselves about when to learn and what to learn.

Some people believe that students need to work diligently from an early age since they face increasing more pressure at high school and university. However, I cannot agree with this opinion.
Admittedly, studying harder can make students become more competitive when they receive higher education. It is acknowledged that knowledge one learns at high school and university is more difficult than that of primary and secondary school. If students can learn more knowledge earlier, when they go to high school and university, they probably find that some courses are quite easy for them since they learn some knowledge in advance. However, admitting merits brought by studying harder is not assuming that young students must spend more time on it.
To begin with, students may lose their interest in study if they are forced to study from an early age. For most primary and secondary students, it may be difficult for them to understand the reason why they need to work hard; in other words, they probably lack motivation for study. Providing that schools or parents demand them to concentrate on courses, taking classes will become a boring task for them. Then, it is more likely that students will dislike study, but not focus on it.
In addition, spending too time on study, students will have insufficient time to develop their own hobbies. In the current era, receiving higher education is not the only option for students and many of them can make a living through their personal interests. For example, some students show their talents in taking photos or playing electronic games and there are a lot of photographers and players who live a comfortable life. If students are asked to spend more time on study, their talents in other fields may be neglected.
To sum up, there is no need for students to study harder when they are young, considering that they do not have time for developing their own interests and some of them even dislike study. |
