Message from Sir Keith O'Nions to Imperial alumni30 November 2012
Dear Imperial Alumnus,I would like to share with you news of an important new initiative to further cement Imperial’s world class position, made possible thanks to your support. Last week we launched the new Imperial College PhD Scholarships scheme, which will provide full scholarship funding for 50 outstanding students to study for a PhD in any of the College’s Faculties and Business School. We aim to attract some of the most talented students from around the world to take up these scholarships, which are in addition to some 1,000 new postgraduate research opportunities available at the College every year.The first Imperial College PhD Scholars will join us in summer 2013 and will each receive a stipend of ￡20,000 and will have their tuition fees paid, allowing them to focus on their research and make the most of their experience as a graduate student at Imperial. They will be supported by academic supervisors who are leaders in their field and through the support available in our award winning Graduate School.We are able to offer these scholarships thanks to the generosity of you, our alumni. Large numbers of our alumni make donations to Imperial each year and these contributions to the Rector’s Scholarship Fund help us to provide opportunities to the very brightest students today and in the future, including towards these 50 new scholarships. I would like to offer my personal thanks to Imperial Alumni all over the world for helping us to attract and develop future leaders in the fields of science, medicine, engineering and business.
