International Students applying for Permanent Residence under Skilled Migration Scheme
As previous messages have indicated, the Australian Government is currently considering changes to the rules that relate to applications for permanent residence in Australia. These changes would require applicants after 30 June, to have completed two years university study within Australia.
Following representations from students, and given that lobbying by the University and others has not yet resulted in any modification to this policy proposal, the University has decided to offer affected students the opportunity to complete the assessment for their degree, by the deadline for lodgement of their permanent residency applications, of 30 June.
If you wish to take up this option:
You must be due to complete all your assessment for your degree during the forthcoming exam period and be affected by the impending immigration policy change.
Register with the Student Administration Office counter in building 36, for a supplementary exam to be held in Study Vacation week (9-13 June) by visiting the student Administration office by Friday 16 May. A supplementary exam will be held in lieu of exams you are scheduled to sit in the second week of the exam period. Exams that are scheduled for you in the first week of the exam period will continue as planned.
In order to be certified as completed, you must pass all your subjects. It will not be possible to schedule further supplementary exams before the 30 June deadline if you are ill and unable to sit your scheduled exam.
The supplementary exam paper that you will sit, will be equivalent but not the same as the paper sat by other students during the scheduled exam, in week 2 of the exam period.
For students who successfully complete their degree requirements, a statement of their completion of their degree and a transcript will be available for collection on Friday 27 June from the Student Administration Office, Building 36.
If there is any change in government policy, these arrangements will be discontinued and the exam timetable arrangements as originally planned will be proceeded with.
