People should look after their health as a duty to the society, rather than only for their own personal benefits. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Looking after one's health should be considered as a responsibility towards the society, rather than only a personal concern. I agree with this ideology to a large extent as I believe that an individual plays a pivotal role in the community and one's health can lead to diverse communal benefits.
Healthy people would be a good source of human capital for the whole society. A healthy community would mean a more productive workforce in the society as fitter individuals would face fewer illnesses, resulting inhigher efficiency and contribution towards societal development. Consequently, looking after personal health can also be considered as a means to achieving a better and safer community. For example, health conscious people would not indulge inalcoholism or smoking, which would decrease the instances of drunk driving and passive smoking, further building a secure and more disease free environment.
Moreover, people who look after their health would create a society that would not only be physically healthy, but alsobe mentally and emotionally balanced. Such a community would face fewer cases of emotional disorders such as depression and anxiety, which would have a positive impact on the future generation. For instance, health driven parents would impart health conscious attributes and positive thinking to their offspring, lessening the occurrences ofsubstance abuse, adolescent trauma and youth suicides, and resulting in a flourishing future.
In conclusion, I believe that concerns on individual health should be treated as an obligation towards the society as personal health is intertwined with societal development since it would not only result in a healthier, safer and more efficient community, but also an improved future generation.
