Air Canada to implement changes to its checked baggage allowance
MONTREAL, Aug. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada today said it is
standardizing its free checked baggage allowance and excess baggage policies
for all domestic, transborder and international flights. This new policy comes
into effect for travel booked on or after August 29, 2005 for travel on or
after October 12, 2005.
Policy highlights include:
- Worldwide free baggage allowance becomes two bags weighing up to 50lbs
(23kg) each, changed from two bags weighing up to 70lbs (32kg).
- The maximum allowable weight of a single checked bag becomes 70lbs
(32kg), changed from 100lbs (45kg).
- Bags weighing between 50lbs and 70lbs will be charged an excess fee of
$35CAD for travel within North America and $60CAD for all international
travel.
- For details on applicable fees for oversized and additional bags, visit

- There are no changes to the current carry-on baggage allotment
consisting of one carry-on bag and one personal item.
This standardization allows the airline to offer its customers a generous
free baggage allotment while remaining competitive with current industry
practices. Changes to the free checked baggage policy are part of an ongoing
realignment of Air Canada's products, services and operational activities to
allow the airline to continue offering the range of affordable, value-driven
options our customers want and have come to expect. The review and realignment
of some activities and services is all the more critical in view of
unrelenting record high fuel costs.
