In general, the colour and width of the tree rings can represent the change in climate conditions. To be more specific, warm weather is more suitable for the nurturing of plants and therefore produces wider rings with relatively light colours. In contrast, trees do not grow fast in cold weather and the rings produced are hence tighter and dark in colour. In conclusion, dendrochronology is useful for determining the timing of events and rates of change in the environment.
