不过, 既然是"留学", 那必然以"学"为重. Times 的排名虽然权威但并不完全. 所以, RAE ranking作为由英国教育机构对各个大学进行的学术研究评估后所得到的排名会是一个不错的择校衡量标准.

RAE - the Research Assessment Exercise

研究评估考核(the Research Assessment Exercise, 简称RAE),是英国高等教育基金委员会对英国高等教育机构的研究质量进行的一次系统全面的测评,大约每五年进行一次。前几次的RAE排名分别发布于1986、**、1992、199##被过滤##2001年。随着各大学研究水平的不断提高,学术竞争的愈发激烈,最新一期的排名时隔七年才公诸于世,可见其调查的细致与严谨。
RAE2008建立在对159所大学52400名职员于2001-2007年间发表的20万件学术成果的评估之上,每个具体专业及科目的RAE测评结果,都是由1100专业领域的专家分成67个评审小组进行审核。其评估结果将直接影响从现在一直到2013年,英国高等教育基金机构每年总计15亿英镑的学术经费的流向,各校各专业的排名以及未来的招生情况。
