The Department of *** was impressed by your application; you are clearly a hard-working
and dedicated student with quite a number of achievements to your credit. You should know that our Department received many Ph.D. applications this year and only a few of the students who applied were selected for interviews. In your telephone interview, you did a good job responding to
some extremely difficult questions from us, and you demonstrated the high language proficiency in English that we were looking for. Unfortunately, there was both keen competition for Ph.D. places in our *** programme this year and a low quota for the number of applicants we were
able to admit. In fact, the Department was able to admit only one Ph.D. student for the upcoming academic year. I hope that neither your enthusiasm for learning nor your respect for our University are diminished as a result of an application process in which you performed commendably. |
